It had all started with a seemingly benign accident. Too much wine at a party the night before, only for Bianca to wake up to a soaked bed the next morning. Though embarrassed and in dire need of new sheets, Bianca had simply brushed if off as a one time thing and brushed it aside.

Until it happened again two nights later. And then another two nights after that. After the fourth accident in more than a week, Bianca had become worried and scheduled an appointment with her doctor ASAP.

A full physical turned up nothing, so her doctor took some blood and a urine sample to run some tests. In the meantime, he offered her some solutions if the problem persisted, like lowering her liquid intake before bed, setting an alarm to make nightly trips to the bathroom, purchasing a waterproof sheet to protect her mattress and, most mortifying of all, suggest purchasing some ‘Adult Incontinence Pads.”

Bianca wasn’t stupid. No matter what name they slapped on them, she knew what they really were: diapers. The kind worn by stupid babies and old people.

Over the course of a week, Bianca tried out the doctor’s suggestions while she waited for the results. The waterproof sheet certainly saved her mattress, though it did nothing to protect her sheets. She tried limiting her liquid intake before bed, only to sneak a glass of wine or two with dinner. She tried setting an alarm, which proved useless as she slept straight through it.

After another week of wet beds and all her test coming back negative, Bianca had finally broken down and bought a pack of diapers for herself. Since then her nightly routine had been the same: glare at the packet of diapers for a few minutes before begrudgingly taking one out and lying it on the bed, adding a decent helping of baby paper (as one experience with the dreaded “diaper rash” had been one too many), pulling up the front of the diaper to make sure it wasn’t tight enough to chaff but not loose enough to leak, before taping it shut around her waist.

As much as she hated them, Bianca was glad she no longer needed to do as much laundry. She just hoped these new nightly garments weren’t going to become a… permanent addition to her nights.
